Youth Group (GLU)

Highfield Road Uniting Church has a small but vibrant youth group, known as "GLU", an acronym coined in 2003, which stands for "God Loves Us". GLU runs social activities approximately every second Friday night during the school term. These events vary from video nights to youth services, bowling, swimming, and even sleepovers. These events are usually fairly inexpensive and relaxed, focused mainly on creating a sense of group community, and building friendships in the group. They also serve as a useful outreach tool, as youth members are encouraged to invite friends along to join in the low pressure, fun activities.

While these are generally run just by Highfield Road Uniting, in recent times, the youth group has been combining with other churches for youth events, to make them bigger, and to give the youth a chance to meet other youth from other churches. Most notably North Balwyn Baptist Church and St. Paul's Anglican Church have been involved.

In addition to these social events, the youth also meet on Sunday mornings during the time of the church service for bible studies. This gives the youth a chance to read the Bible for themselves, and come to understand God's word in a way that is tailored for their current life situation. They get a chance to ask questions, and are challenged to think about how their lives should change in response to what they have learnt. We also ensure that those who come for bible study at such an early hour are well fed.
