Celebrating vibrant faith & gracious hospitality

Tennis Club

What wonderful sport tennis is – people of all ages are able to play, with all varying levels of skill. HRUC tennis courts have people from our church community, the local surrounding community and school community utilising this wonderful facility.

The Tennis Courts attached to Highfield Road Uniting Church have provided a point of social contact for the members of the church for over 70 years. The tennis club was primarily used on Saturday and a large number of the church community has supported the club over the years. Some of the members have played an active role in the club for over 40 years, although many are more recent members of the church community.

The courts have been used for coaching of juniors for many years. The current coach, TopTennTennis, has access to the courts on Monday and Wednesday after school, from 3:45 till 5:15 and Thursday morning prior to school. Children from the local community as well as Canterbury Primary School are gaining the benefit of outdoor activity, anticipation and reflexive hand-eye coordination.

Tennis Club membership has changed over recent years, with an increase in community members having access to the courts. Highfield Road Uniting Church supports this and it is seen as an outreach opportunity by the church in supporting healthy activity in the community.
